The heady experience on “Maverick,” a pop-culture juggernaut that grossed nearly $1.5 billion worldwide, only further ratcheted up their aspirations. Their plan was to make not one but two sequels: Back-to-back blockbusters that would feature even bigger stunts - Cruise envisioned a motorcycle jump-slash-skydive - and a massive train sequence that McQuarrie pined to realize. McQuarrie, the writer-director of 2015’s “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” and the 2018 franchise high point, “Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” was working with Cruise on “Top Gun: Maverick ” (which McQuarrie co-wrote and co-produced) when they started talking about their ambitions for the next iteration of “Mission: Impossible.” “Every time we finish a movie, the first thing Tom says to me is: We can do better,” says Christopher McQuarrie. every night and now with five locations spanning Miami-Dade and Broward.NEW YORK (AP) - There are, as a rule, only so many places you can go as an action movie after leaving Tom Cruise clinging to the side of an Airbus A400M and flinging him out a cargo plane at 25,000 feet.īut in the kinetic, headlong world of “Mission: Impossible,” the pressure to keep upping the ante - like the films’ always-running star - never stops. When I was thinking of what’s the complete opposite of a nighttime cookie concept… I instantly thought: artisanal rolls and coffee bar!” Rolled “As I turned 30, I looked back and realized, I too have grown and evolved and I wanted to create a brand that embodied where I am now as a person. “I founded Night Owl Cookies when I was 20… almost 10 years ago! It’s been such an emotional journey watching it grow and evolve into something I could have only dreamed of,” Andrew Gonzalez said in a statement. And the best part? Rolled is located just doors down from Night Owl’s University Park location. Unlike Night Owl’s whimsical pink and sprinkles-filled decor, Rolled has more neutral tones with hints of navy purples and buttercream hues. Expect artisanal rolls and coffee year-round beyond the regular cinnamon rolls everyone has come to know and love every season. The brand new dessert shop, Rolled, is a unique roll heaven. The gunman, Benjamin Smith, 43, killed a 60-year-old woman and wounded three other women, as well as a male protest medic who responded to their calls for help, before a volunteer security guard for the protest ended the rampage by shooting the attacker in the hip. Ngo’s lawsuit names one of the few groups to publicly affiliate itself, Rose City Antifa, along with five named defendants and other unknown alleged attackers.Prosecutors in Portland, Oregon, charged a right-wing gunman with murder on Tuesday, three days after he opened fire on a group of unarmed women who were directing traffic along the route of a protest march against police violence. “What is not important is the journalist’s particular viewpoint, but the fact that his activities … are protected, and violence is never acceptable as a counterpoint to those First Amendment activities,” she said. While the suit is “particularly timely” given the recent protests and attention on antifa, Dhillon said she has represented journalists of all stripes in the past. Spokesmen for Portland police and state and federal prosecutors did not respond to requests for comment. She said she waited months to sue in the futile hope that authorities would bring criminal charges against Ngo’s attackers. That makes it more difficult, but not impossible, to pursue a lawsuit, said California-based attorney Harmeet Dhillon, a Republican Party official who sued on Ngo’s behalf.ĭhillon said the timing of the antifa lawsuit was coincidental to recent protests over the death of George Floyd, who struggled to breathe as his neck was pinned down by a white Minneapolis police officer’s knee. Video of the attack was widely viewed online and led to national calls for investigations as well as a subsequent rally led by the Proud Boys, a right-wing organization that has been designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.Īntifa - short for “anti-fascists”– is an umbrella term for leftist militant groups that confront or resist neo-Nazis and white supremacists at demonstrations. Ngo has drawn attention to antifa for years and said he was targeted and suffered brain injuries when he was assaulted while covering protests in Portland a year ago. “I am hoping that this marks a turning point, that militants belonging to a criminal movement can no longer depend on the anonymity … to get away with their crimes,” said Ngo, who previously was a writer with the online publication Quillette and now is with The Post Millennial. The suit was filed on behalf of Andy Ngo, who is known for aggressively covering and video-recording demonstrators. A conservative writer from Portland filed a lawsuit Thursday against purported elements of the nebulous, far-left militant groups collectively known as antifa, days after President Donald Trump blamed those groups for inciting violence at protests over police killings of black people. 8/31/2023 0 Comments New hot pot restaurant chicagoOur menu has everything you could crave from a Chinese restaurant. Our professional staff provides friendly and prompt service. So much flavor, so much culture, if you Chicago this is a MUST EAT.Shoo Loong Kan Hotpot is the best place to get comforting and delicious Chinese cuisine in Chicago, IL. When you're done having one of the best meals of your life, step outside and explore Chicago's beautiful China town. Great quality, phenomenal flavor, and sliced so thing that it cooks with just a few seconds dunk in the broth. The stand outs for me were the fatty beef and the lamb. I honestly don't know how they stay in business with those prices. For $30 all you can eat meat, you're not expecting the best meat possible. What makes this place so great is the quality. It's not uncomfortable hot, and it's got so much flavor. I went with this, but if I had it to do over again I'd just go all spicy. They have a basic bone broth, or a spicy, or a "half and half" option. The first and most important selection though is your broth. I'm a fat kit, I ordered probably 6 different meats and 10 different veggies, and still managed to put it all down plus more. It's all you can eat, but they warn up front that if you leave more than 5oz of anything uneaten they'll weight it and charge you for it. If you order the fatty beef, they're going to bring you a TON of it. Be warned that there are no "sample-size" portions. There is a decision to be made here though. Go nuts, order a much as you think you can stomach. To start with you'll be given a menu with all of the various meat/veg options for you to check off what you want. $30 per person (including tip, unless you want booze with your meal). The Happy Lamb does offer an ala-carte option, but if you're doing that at hotpot, you're doing it wrong. into the broth (Korean BBQ but with broth instead of a grill). For those familiar, hotpot is a style of eating where your table has a pot of boiling spicy broth, and you order various raw meats and vegetables to dunk. This was my first hotpot experience, and honestly one of my favorite meals in recent memory. This is a great family experience and a wonderful way to introduce children (and adults) to fresh Chinese style food and culture beyond the traditional takeout container food. Everything was spotlessly clean and the service is professional. They charge for food that is ordered and not eaten to prevent patrons from wasting food. One price for all you can eat - but don't over order. There was also a counter area offering a large selection of condiments and dipping sauces. You can add a 2nd and 3rd round of food selections - mussels were excellent, as was the fish. You put your food into the broth and let it cook - over time, the broth becomes more and more interesting as you take out and eat food and add more - mushrooms, bok choy etc. and carbs for your first round - the beef and pork were thinly shaved slices rolled cigar-like. First they bring a pot filled with a scrumptious broth to the table and it bubbles away on the burner. They walk you through the ins and outs of hotpot dining.
